Everybody Wins: Putting Your Strengths to Work for Personal and Organizational Success*

Friday, December 9, 2011 - 9:00am to 3:00pm

In 1966 Peter Drucker argued that “the effective executive builds on strengths—their own strengths, the strengths of superiors, colleagues, subordinates; and on the strengths of the situation.” Yet today most workplace training is still about overcoming weaknesses. What if you instead focused on identifying your strengths—and those of your staff and colleagues—and used them to energize your workday and improve team performance? Research indicates that this is a powerful approach to creating an engaged and productive team.

This CPM With Distinction course will use Gallup’s StrengthsFinder assessment to identify some intrinsic areas of talent and ability that, for many, have not been captured by other tools. Participants will complete the assessment before the class, and then in class we’ll interpret our results to learn what insights they offer about where we can make the biggest contributions to our teams and learn why this also supports our own engagement.

We’ll also explore strategies for identifying and leveraging the strengths of your colleagues and staff —without requiring that they all take the StrengthsFinder assessment. Participants will leave with a basic understanding of the research that supports strengths-based development and with a practical set of tools that will enable them to explore and draw on their strengths and the strengths of others in the workplace.
